Midcoast Model Festival

Event has passed

The Owls Head Transportation Museum once again welcomes modelers and miniaturists from throughout New England to the annual Midcoast Model Festival April 8-9 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

This two-day indoor event attracts approximately 70 exhibitors and features a vast array of models of all kinds including trains, aircraft, boats, automobiles and more. Radio controlled model demonstrations, children’s activities and other programs highlight this popular spring event. Modelers from throughout Maine and beyond display a mix of kit models as well as handmade creations and collectibles. This show is a celebration of all types of models, and exhibitors are expected to bring everything from antique steam engines to cars, planes, ships and trains.

On the even smaller scale, miniaturists will once again be joining the show to exhibit their impeccably crafted work. Not to be confused with children’s dollhouses, these architectural-quality scale homes and furnishings are sure to fascinate audiences of all ages. Even the tools that build the hobby are miniature, and exhibitors will display their work and demonstrate their skills throughout the weekend.

The family-oriented event will feature an array of interactive activities and demonstrations including flight simulators, indoor flying demonstrations, and hands-on projects. The Museum is pleased to welcome back the Southern Maine Scale Modelers, who will host their popular “Make-and-Take” model workshop beginning at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 8. An annual favorite, the workshop allows each participant to build his or her own sans-glue, snap kit model. A variety of styles will be available, and children can choose from a selection of cars, trucks and aircraft. Instruction and all materials will be provided, and the workshop is free. Workshops will continue throughout the day on Saturday on a walk-in basis.

Standard admission price of $14 for adults and $10 for seniors 65+ will be charged at this event. Children under 18, as well as retired and active duty military with Uniformed Services I.D., are admitted free. Doors open at 9:00 a.m. both Saturday and Sunday. Concessions will be available for purchase throughout the weekend. For more information about the event call the Museum at 207-594-4418 or visit our website at owlshead.org. The Museum is located at 117 Museum Street, in Owls Head, Maine, just two miles south of Rockland on Rte. 73.
