19 By-Way demo done, ready for summer

The 19 By-Way project has completed its first phase. E.M. Wood Construction demolished the former Romar building ahead of the May 25 extended schedule deadline granted to Knickerbocker Group and its client, Rahul Anand, by the Boothbay Harbor Board of Selectmen. The big chunk of granite underneath the building is exposed behind a chain-link fence surrounding the site. Rip rap and mulch fills in dips and crannies. The sidewalk and the parking spaces in front of the site are available for use.

Knickerbocker architectural designer Randy Smith said, “We are essentially complete, except for shoring up some posts and signage. We’re waiting for the rain to wash away some of the dirt on the ledge.”

Construction of the new building will begin in the fall.
