On behalf of the membership of the American Legion Post 36, and I think I can speak on behalf of all veterans in the Boothbay region, a heartfelt thanks to the Boothbay Harbor Rotary for hosting all veterans for their Veterans Day dinner. As they have done so graciously over the years, their recognition of the service and sacrifice made by our military, veterans and our families is very much appreciated.

Sunday was our last breakfast for 2017, and what a great turn out! Thanks to all that have supported us by joining us for breakfast. While the food is always outstanding, what is really special is the camaraderie and the community spirit we always feel when the hall is full! I would also like to express my thanks to our legionnaires who faithfully make the breakfast happen. A very special thanks to those who are not legionnaires who are there each and every breakfast to provide their talents. And, again, thanks to the Boothbay Region Community Resource Council for providing the always popular waffle station!

The American Legion Auxiliary is once again becoming active in Boothbay. The Auxiliary will meet at the same time as the Post (second Monday of the month) and participate in all our activities. Anyone interested in joining the Post or the Auxiliary are welcome to join us for our 5:30 p.m. pre-meeting dinner followed by the 6 p.m. meeting.

Speaking of events … the Post is hosting our first ever Army (8-2) Navy (6-3) football game party on Dec. 9, game time is 3 p.m. with the Tailgate party starting at 2 p.m. All veterans, their families, and guests are invited. Hot dogs and hamburgers will be provided, with potluck delectables being requested. Army, by the way, beat the Air Force Academy, 21-0, and Navy beat AF, 48-45, this year. Rumor has it, Adria Horn, director of Maine Bureau of Veterans Services and a 2001 graduate of West Point, will be there to lead the Army cheerleading efforts.
