The retrospective show featuring the works of the late East Boothbay artists and ceramists Brenda and Weston Andersen is opening with a reception on Saturday, April 22 from 5-7 p.m. The show also includes works by other family members dating back to the 1950s. The gallery, located at 53 Townsend Avenue in Boothbay Harbor, is open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The show at Studio 53 is derived from the Andersen's attic, exhibiting work in all forms gathered over the course of 65 years of being a family business engaged in the wonderful process of ceramic design and slip casting. During those years the best work was sold and became part of many private collections handed down through the generations.

Andersen Design has been approved by Fractured Atlas to accept tax deductible donations for work. In order to qualify for the deduction, work must be purchased for donation to non-profit entities.  You can find Andersen Design’s museum project listed on Fractured Atlas’ website: www.fracturedatlas.org.

Andersen Design will be working with professionals  locating and identifying 65 years of work  to acquire some of the best historical end products, to establish the value of the work, and to organize museum shows.

The Studio 53 show has some amazing end products and is also a dynamic history of what the process of being an American ceramic design and slip casting enterprise is about with the hope of inspiring a new generation of American ceramic designers with whom Andersen Design hopes to be develop new relationships.

The retrospective will also include notes from the Maine Crafts Association after World War II.

The Andersen show runs through Sunday, April 30.
