Art sale and show at the Bristol Road Galleries

Fri, 08/07/2015 - 11:45am

“Guests on the Lawn” art sale event brings an eclectic selection of artists together on the lawns and under the tents of the Bristol Road collaboration of artists on Aug. 14-16 in Damariscotta. This is the second of three such events this 2015 season. The final “Guests on the Lawn” event will be in September.

Each of the four galleries will offer refreshments from 4-6 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 15. Demonstrations and artists painting en plein air will be part of the weekend’s activities, giving visitors the opportunity see how they work and watch the process of creating an original piece of art.

All artwork is for sale.

Marnie Sinclair of the Sinclair Gallery will be creating wire sculptures at her gallery Friday through Sunday.

“The fun thing about collaborating on the creation of a piece of sculpture from natural materials is that as artists there are no expectations or investment in the end result,” Sinclair said about her guests’ art installation at the previous event. “The fun is in the sharing of each other's sense of balance, design, and risk. The egos are parked elsewhere and the sheer joy of creating can begin.”

Will Kefauver of the Kefauver Studio & Gallery will host oil and acrylic painter Polly Steadman and pastelist Kim Traina. Kefauver will be painting en plein air at his gallery during the weekend.

Jan Kilburn of the Kilburn Gallery will host oil painters Barbara Applegate, Barbara Klein, and Judy Nixon; oil and pastel artist Sally Loughridge, and watercolorists Sarah Fisher, Claire Halley, Carol Jessen, Joann Pinnard, and Bob Vaughan. Kilburn and her guests will be painting en plein air on Saturday.

Kathleen Horst of the Horst Studio Gallery will paint en plein air at her studio on Friday and Sunday, and will join Kilburn and her guests on Saturday.

The Bristol Road Galleries are: the Kefauver Studio & Gallery at 144 Bristol Road, the Kilburn Gallery at 168 Bristol Road, the Sinclair Gallery at 172 Bristol Road, and the Kathleen Horst Studio Gallery at 179 Bristol Road. All four galleries are within walking distance of each other. Feel free to park at one gallery, and walk to the others.
