Art with a side of trivia at Boothbay Harbor Framers

Tue, 09/06/2016 - 8:15am

Boothbay Harbor Framers is celebrating Harbor Fest with a lineup of talented artists of the region, all with works on display at the shop. From 2-4 p.m. on Tuesday, painter and author Cheryl Blaydon; on Wednesday the “brilliantly talented,” as owner Susan Brackett says, Allan Walton will be there, followed by Tony van Hasselt on Thursday with a demonstration of his art.

In addition to these talented artists, customers can try their hand at answering some trivia questions about the shop and be entered into the “Jeopardy” daily and grand prize drawings.

Every day, everyone who answers the trivia question correctly will win a small prize. On Sept. 10 at the close of business, Brackett will draw one name from all the entrants for a grand prize winner.

On Labor Day, the question was about the soap rocks on sale near the checkout counter. By 2:30 p.m., about five people had entered. Brackett has been running the challenge since last Friday, with a positive response.

“It's a fun way to interact with the customers, and people who might not normally come in our store,” Brackett said. “There's so much in here, we want to motivate people to really look around.”

Daily prizes include things like soap rocks and ice chip candy, small $10-$12 items. While Brackett hasn't settled on what the grand prize will be yet (a large nautical chart? Tickets to the Opera House?), she did say it would be “well worth the time it takes to come in.”

Boothbay Harbor Framers is located in the Meadow Mall in between the Community Center and Radio Shack. Normal hours are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
