Established and budding artists are invited to a three-day plein air watercolor workshop with Tony van Hasselt on July 24-26 at various locations in Midcoast Maine. The workshop is open to artists of all skill levels.

Van Hasselt is a signature member of the American Watercolor Society (A.W.S.), and author of the “Watercolor Fix-It Book,” “A Studio Visit,” “Outdoor Watercolor Workshop” and “Painting with the White of Your Paper.”

Van Hasselt has also produced a number of popular instructional videos covering figure drawing, creative realism, painting basics and others.

A highly sought after instructor whose workshops are held at many international locations, van Hasselt is renowned for his clear and entertaining teaching style.

“I'm a ham. I love to teach,” van Hasselt said. “We all want to be better, so we are all rowing in the same direction. I have empathy with those who honestly want to improve, and (I) remember my own struggles. And in watercolor, those struggles are always there. Watercolor keeps you humble.”

The cost of this three-day adventure is $375. Reservations may be made at magwiscasset@gmail.com. Participants will meet each morning at The Maine Art Gallery, 15 Warren Street in Wiscasset, then leave for the painting location and return for an afternoon critique.

This workshop is a fundraiser for The Maine Art Gallery, a nonprofit (501c3) arts organization.
