Bristol’s Saltwater Artists Gallery management team has thrown down the gauntlet to this season’s 25 members to celebrate the balance of the August calendar with a “burst of color!”

Members were challenged to show new or recent work that reflects bright exploding color and design. The gallery’s entrance exhibition corner will display a sampling of this theme now through Sept. 9.

Carol Wiley’s curating skills have been employed to hang the front corner in a “salon style” — think Gertrude Stein. She has utilized a comfy chair with a table to unite the varied art pieces into a room view reminiscent of a Matisse painting.

Lizzy Derecktor’s beautiful silk wearable art is draped casually on the furniture to highlight the look.

As a nonprofit co-op gallery, this year’s fundraising effort to benefit local school art programs is continuing through the season with a sale of used art books contributed by the artists and other community members.

Drop by to check out the books or just to make a much appreciated donation.

Saltwater Artists Gallery is located at the end of Route 130 across from the Bradley Inn just prior to the turn to Pemaquid Point Lighthouse Park. The gallery is open daily 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Columbus Day weekend.
