Bargain Basement needs volunteers

Mon, 07/28/2014 - 10:30am

Anyone who’s visited the gem of a second hand store located in Wiscasset’s St. Philip’s Church, comes away thrilled at the wonderful finds, and for so little!

The mission of the basement is to not only help support St. Philip’s, an historic 19th century structure, but is also committed to offering great bargains to all, and especially free items to those in particularly dire circumstances, such as those who have experienced fires or other major disruptions to their lives.

Well, the Bargain Basement needs help itself.

The loyal but elderly staff has dwindled, and few have appeared to restaff the shop. Open Tuesdays from noon to 4 p.m., and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., there are several opportunities to volunteer with sorting, hanging, or making dump runs, not to mention learning the art of running the register.

If looking to volunteer for an hour or two, each week or here and there, the Bargain Basement would be happy to have you come on board. Call Gail Swanton, c/o St. Philip’s Church at 882-7184 or email stphilips@wiscasset.net. The more, the merrier.
