The Sandy River Ramblers will appear in an intimate concert at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 13, at the River Arts Gallery in Damariscotta.

The Ramblers play bluegrass music with a special emphasis on original songs about Maine. According to Bangor Daily News writer George Smith, the band’s CD, “Cry of the Loon” and other original songs about Maine is “a gift to Mainers.”

Smith writes, “The song ‘Slow Down (You’ll Hit A Moose)’ should be played on that AM station available to tourists as they enter Maine on the turnpike . . . But it’s “Boots from L.L. Bean” that may be your favorite. It’s sure to become a classic. It’s an hilarious parody of all-things-Maine, including Down East magazine

The Ramblers feature breathtaking instrumental playing and stunning lead and harmony singing by Stan Keach, Julie Davenport and 15-year-old wunderkind Dana Reynolds.

River Arts’ annual Maine Theme show opens on Aug. 18, but this Maine-themed musical concerts will get gallery goers in the mood for the Celebrate Maine show; in the meantime, the Summertime Blues show will certainly feature some Maine subjects.

Admission is $10/adults $5/youth 16 and younger. Refreshments will be available.

River Arts is at 241 U.S. Route 1 North in Damariscotta. For more information, call River Arts: 207-563-1507 or call Stan at 207-397-2241.
