Boosters Club regrouping

Members of the Boothbay Region High School Boosters Club are working quickly to overcome unfortunate news received earlier this month.

On Aug. 13, former president of the club, Heather O’Brien, was arrested by Boothbay Harbor Police and charged with theft by unauthorized taking or transfer in connection with a bank account for the Boosters.

On Tuesday, Aug. 26, parents, teachers and former board members got together to discuss the future of the club and how to regroup.

“We're going back to a basic board; four people. President, vice president, secretary and treasurer,” said new board president Tracy Smith. Other members include vice president Ted Brown, secretary Candy Crocker, and treasurer Michelle Bouchard.

According to Smith, at another meeting in September, the board will be revisiting the club bylaws. She also stated that the school would likely be more involved with the club. Athletic Director Allan Crocker was present at the most recent meeting.

Smith also stated that the Boosters’ funds would be overseen by more than one person.

At the moment, the Boosters are primarily focused on getting things up and running. The Snack Shack was scheduled to open for the Aug. 28 game, and will continue to be open at every home game of the season.

“We are starting a letter-writing campaign to raise money,” Smith said. “Everything will run as it always did; it's for the kids and we want to make everything as normal as possible.”
