Boothbay defeats Mt. Valley, 5-2

The Boothbay Region High School soccer team defeated Mountain Valley at home on Friday, Sept. 29, 5-2, keeping their bid for a playoff berth alive.

Coach Ben Powell reports:

“A great win for the Seahawks who controlled the game from start to finish. The girls moved the ball well and got contributions from everyone on the field. A few people had to play positions they typically don't with Hannah Cola stepping in goal for an injured Jackie McLoon and ReAnna Heino and Summer Chamberlin playing new defensive roles. Reagan Cola opened up the scoring with a quick goal in the first 5 minutes of the game by basically dribbling through their entire team. This was a common theme in the game, as Mt. Valley had no answer for her. The second goal was scored by Olivia Paolillo who took it down the left wing and finished with a nice low shot in the corner. Mt. Valley responded towards the end of the first half with a goal of their own on a very nice shot from about 15 yards out. The halftime score was 2-1.”

“In the second half Boothbay ran away with the game netting 3 more goals, the first one by Evy Case with a well placed shot in the corner. The next two were from Reagan Cola who was able to get it over the keeper twice from 25+ yards out. Reagan finished with a hat trick, the first one we've had this season. Mt. Valley scored their second goal with a few minutes left and the game already in hand.”

“This was a must win for the Seahawks who are still looking to get into the playoffs this year. With 5 games left it looks like we will need at least 2 more wins to get in. If we play like we did tonight we can definitely make it happen.”

The Seahawks have an intense week of play, facing Carrabec away on Oct. 2, Hall-Dale at home on Tuesday, Oct. 3 and Lisbon at Lisbon on Thursday, Oct. 5.
