Boothbay Harbor Fest poster competition announced

Thu, 02/19/2015 - 8:15am

Boothbay Harbor Fest will celebrate its fourth annual celebration this September with a long list of exciting additions, beginning with the first ever poster competition. The contest is free to enter and all are welcome to submit their artwork for consideration as the official 2015 poster.

Contest details can be downloaded at www.boothbayharborfest.com. The deadline for submission is March 31.

The competition is part of a major event making its Harbor Fest debut this year. The Stroke of Art event will invite a select group of plein air artists to visit (and paint) our peninsula during Harbor Fest. The artists will stay for seven nights (Sept. 7-14) as guests of event sponsors, Harborfields Waterfront Cottages. A variety of “Paint Outs” will take place throughout the week, followed by public receptions at various local establishments, where artwork will be on display and available for sale. The event will conclude with a Meet the Artists Jazz Brunch at Harborfields Waterfront Cottages on Sunday, Sept. 13.

There are several other new events coming in 2015.

Harbor Fest kicks off early this year with the first ever Brew Cluster event at the Boothbay Craft Brewery on Memorial Day Weekend. Each year the BCB crafts a limited edition Harbor Fest Ale for the festival. This year they have decided to invite their craft beer friends into the brew house to assist in crafting the 2015 ale and design the label. There is an entire weekend of fun planned. It promises to be an unforgettable kick off to summer. Tickets are on sale now at www.boothbayharborfest.com and the Watershed Tavern. Local businesses interested in participating in this event to drive visitor traffic into their establishment over Memorial Day Weekend can contact Lori at 207-671-7676 for more information.

The Boothbay Region Boosters Club will host a pancake fundraiser breakfast on Monday, Sept. 7, along with a variety of family fun activities presented by the junior class of 2015-16. More details will be announced as plans develop.

There will also be a local business showcase from Sept. 7-11. Businesses interested in learning more about this new event should call Lori at 207-671-7676.

In addition to the new events, several enhancements have been made to existing Harbor Fest events that promise to raise the bar on visitor experience and participant revenue potential.

Boothbay Region Harbor Fest sponsors include Maine Magazine, Portland Radio Group-WCLZ, Harborfields Waterfront Cottages, Boothbay Craft Brewery, Rocktide Inn & Restaurant, Boothbay Harbor Region Chamber of Commerce, COCO VIVO Art for Living, Spruce Point Inn, Boothbay Register and Boothbay Region YMCA.
