    Meet author Susan Poulin

Susan Poulin was supposed to be our guest author for our February Literary Lunch, but we had to postpone because we were all digging out from the latest snowstorm. Judging by the weather as I write this and the number of patrons who’ve said they had to light the woodstove this week, there’s a slight chance we’ll get hit again. Until next week’s forecast is out, though, I’m going to be optimistic and assume Friday, June 9 is a go ahead.

Poulin is the author of “Finding Your Inner Moose” and “The Sweet Life” — two no-nonsense books about living and loving your Maine life. Her books are hilarious, but don’t take my word for it; come and check out our copy of “Finding Your Inner Moose” or borrow “The Sweet Life” on e-book from Hoopla.

Registration is free, and as always you can order a catered lunch for $10 from the Boothbay House of Pizza. Lunch registrations are due by noon on Thursday, June 8.

     Meet artist Hilary Bartlett

We here at the Library are excited to announce that local artist Hilary Bartlett has volunteered to be the new coordinator of our monthly art shows.

If asked where she’s from, Hilary blithely says Boothbay Harbor, yet she carries a  strong Liverpool accent and even saw the Beatles at the Cavern before they were famous.

She feels a strong connection with the Maine coast and jokes that she came here one  summer to work on red-tide organisms and never left.

Hilary worked at Bigelow Laboratory for 14 years, but left to open up a home-based art business, West Harbor Studio, when her daughter was young. Watercolors and acrylic inks are her preferred medium and some of her ink paintings have won local and national awards.

Hilary has also maintained strong ties to literature as her mother was a published author of children’s stories and Hilary has been a member of our Library for many years.

Artists interested in exhibiting at the Library should contact us to be put in touch with Hilary.

    Books in Boothbay

Mark your calendars for Saturday, July 8, because that’s when our favorite Maine authors head to Boothbay for the thirteenth annual Books in Boothbay Book Fair at the Railway Village.

This year, we’re hosting more than three dozen fiction and non-fiction writers, children’s book authors, poets, and illustrators. You’ll have the chance to meet Barbara Ross, Jen Blood, Lynn Plourde, Paul Doiron, and so many others.

The book fair runs from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Admission to is free; train tickets are sold separately.
