Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club: Christmas party Thursday

Wed, 12/17/2014 - 6:00pm

Thursday is the annual Christmas Party at the home of PC Marianne Reynolds on Barters Island. Remember two important things: Bring a flashlight to help you find your way back to your car; and bring non-perishable foods for the Region Food Pantry. Marianne will gather all the food together and deliver it on Friday to the Congregational Church where the food pantry is located.

Last week the ice bothered a few but six stalwart ladies gathered for lunch at Center Cafe and nine men assembled at Mr. C's. Discussion was of many topics but probably the most talked about item was the moving of the Kenniston Hill Inn which was taking place as the lunch moved on.

Word has it that Sandy Gillespie is doing well and rehabbing and recuperating at St. Andrews Village where she lives.

Jim Matel reports that the club office will operate with reduced hours during Christmas week. Please call ahead to be sure someone is there if you need to stop by.

Thanks to the good work of Debbie Swan, the BHOD has worked out a plan to loan two Boothbay Harbor One Designs to the club for at least a two-year period starting this summer.

The One Designs will be available for use by the Junior Program and will be made available to members through the adult sailing program as well. The hope is that a chance to sail in this spectacular, one of a kind, sailboat will increase interest and reactivate this historical piece of our club’s past.

Thanks to David Nutt and the Merrill family for helping to make this possible.

Next time you are in the casino (you can't get there now because it is crammed full of our new 420 sailboats, look up on the ceiling and see the names (many of them familiar today) and winners of a once extremely active one design race program. Swan, Hunt, Bowden, Giles, Russell, and on and on they go.
