Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club

The Columbus Day weekend has sailed by while we enjoyed perfect weather here in Maine and others of us who live in Florida and South Carolina have suffered the wrath of Mother Nature's worst. To those intimately involved we send our best wishes for a quick and successful recovery.

Our mooring field has the look of exciting days past and save for a few die hards and the High School sailing program we are just about ready to see the Blake's crew starting their fall mooring dance. Speaking of the young sailors, they were in action last weekend at Portland and will participate in their last Regatta on October 16 at Rockland. Look for news elsewhere in the paper.

The potluck supper was well attended and naturally the discussion centered about Hurricane Matthew and the bullet we dodged. Outstanding food was ingested along with a promise to attend Saturday's work day. Where in the world would we be without PC Jim Sutton's crew dismantling the entrance canopy?

While not a Yacht Club member, Gil Charbonneau was a friend of many of us and a very active member of the maritime community. His passing will leave a gap in our midst.

We do have a busy rest of fall and, of course, the upcoming winter to plan for. The next event on our social calendar is the first of the winter gatherings to be held the last Thursday of this month at the home of Tracy Robinson and George Ross. Put it on your calendar now!

This column continues weekly through out the off-season and if you have items to be included, please feel free to email your scribe. Remember that although the Register publishes on Thursday we must submit copy on Monday morning.
