Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club

Tue, 06/20/2017 - 2:00pm

We were saddened to hear of the passing of Anita Howe, a longtime member and active for many years in many club activities. From her home on Landing Road in Southport, Anita kept track of just about every boat that transited the gut. Anita hosted many memorable parties on her deck in the summer and in her beautiful home during less than warm nights.

Another good friend of BHYC members, Molly Luke, also passed away recently. Molly and husband Roger (brother of esteemed late member Paul Luke) lived in Topsham and in East Boothbay overlooking the Damariscotta River.

Today, Thursday, the Suddenly Skipper event was well attended, as was the annual Blessing of the Fleet and Thursday cocktail reception. Friday night will be the Dinner with an Author featuring Jonathan White.

Saturday will be the annual Dock Party directed by Jay and Evie Haberland to the tune of "A Summer Sailstace," or welcome to summer at last! Eight boats, both power and sail, will be at the docks plus two kayaks. Passed goodies will be available on the dock and inside and the whole thing starts at 5 p.m., followed by a fabulous buffet dinner. Be sure to make your reservations.

Saturday there also is a board meeting at 0830 and at 1300 The Commodores Cup Fleet race will be held. Sunday is a BHOD Commodores Cup Pursuit Start race at 1300 and at 1700 an Evening of Bridge.

And we get into Windjammer Days events with Tuesday's Antique Boat Parade featuring many BHYC boats. Wednesday night is Fireworks, best seen from our dining room or docks (or mooring field) and Thursday next week is the Schooner Adventure Tour and sail.
