The construction crew lost part of a day and a half last week to the snowstorm but two of the workers were able to work inside on the ground floor preparing the area for concrete pouring by laying insulation and forming the reinforcing wires. Plumbers also completed the basics “in floor” work for the Junior Program bathrooms and showers, etc. Outside the crews got to work quickly after the snow in building the decks and ramps/stairways with pressure treated lumber.

Last week we gave you some dates to save ... well that was just the beginning. How about penciling in some important Tuesdays? Carol Cochran has been busy setting up a whole passel of special people and special titles to present. Lets start with June 12 when our own Maria Boord will be discussing “The Pursuit of Meaningful Work.” Or maybe June 19 when authors Tom and Anne Szelog whose topic will be “Fourteen Years at a Maine Lighthouse.” And on the 26th, Ken and Marcia Bradsell will preside.

In July, on the 10th, Ann Witty will present “The Mary E.” On the 17th it will be Jim Nelson talking about “Full Fathom Five.” On the 14th Bob Foster will speak on “Adman” or “Cadet.” And on the 31st our Jon Dunsford will talk on Ship Modeling.

We have still got August (and September) starting on the 7th when Lynn Olson will discuss “Last Hope Island.” On the 14th Sandra Neily, daughter of the late Rupe and Biz Neily who were past BHYC members, will speak on “Deadly Trespass, a Maine Mystery.” On the 21st we will hear from Jim McManus of Bigelow Labs and on the 28th Louis Sell will speak on “From Washington to Moscow: US Soviet Relations and the Collapse of the USSR.” Lastly on the 11th of September we will welcome John Yrchik.

Last weekend, I talked with two past commodores, Lee Krow and Bob Scribner, who both were heading to Miami for the winter reunion being hosted by Don and Claire Tomlin. Unfortunately news from the event itself will need to be reserved for next week’s Register because of press deadlines for this week. The weather there looks a good deal better than ours so that is a good start. Word does come from the Tomlins that there will be 26 BHYC members attending the dinner at the Coral Reef Yacht Club.
