The Boothbay Region High School field hockey team avenged an early season loss to the Winthrop Ramblers by defeating them, 1-0, in Winthrop on Monday, Oct. 2.

After a scoreless first half, senior Sydney Meader, off a pass from sophomore Chloe Arsenault, scored with 19:56 remaining, and the defense held the rest of the game. With just under three minutes to play, Winthrop’s Kinli DiBiase tried a penalty shot but Boothbay goalie Emily Amaral blocked it.

“Yesterday we played a complete game, 60 minutes of focused team play,” said BRHS Coach Donna Jordan, who registered her 300th career victory with the win. “Everyone stepped up when challenged, both offensively and defensively. It was a great team effort.”

Boothbay, now 10-1, lost 2-0 to Winthrop at home in early September. Winthrop dropped to 10-1-1 with the loss. As of Tuesday morning, Boothbay was still ranked second behind Winthrop in the Class C North division.

The Seahawks will face Hall-Dale at home Wednesday, Oct. 4 at 3:30 p.m. After an away game at Telstar on Friday, Oct. 6, Boothbay will host Spruce Mountain on Monday, Oct. 9 at 10:30 a.m. to conclude the regular season.
