Boothbay Region Lions Club

Mon, 05/14/2018 - 12:30pm

Our King Lion greeted twenty-two members at our meeting on May 9. After our usual pledge, prayer, moment of silence, toast and piano song, Lions Jay and Dwight served barbecued chicken with side dishes and cake for dessert.

Our guests for the evening were Joanna Breen and Meg Donaldson from the Boothbay Harbor Library. Meg has started a large print book club currently held at St. Andrews Village. Thorndike Press has decided not to underwrite these books again so a donor(s) is needed. Both Meg and Joanna spoke very proudly of this program and hope it can continue. It just might be a perfect fit with the Lions.

Our club is busy with projects. The summer raffle will be in full swing soon for August drawings. Bingo equipment is being researched. Eyeglass requests are coming in as well. Members are gearing up for the Windjammer parade. Celebrate Service Day at the Railway Village was noteworthy as we learned about other organizations in our community. We were proud to help fill the bus for the schools pantries.

Tail Twister Tom N. fined Lion Terry as he had not heard the term “Wiscassetian” before. Lion Phil C. found a Hawaiian shirt to wear and Lion Duane thought it was warm enough to wear shorts. Lion Paul gave a report of Lion Wendy’s recent surgery but also left her home! Get well Wendy and other Lions missing from this meeting!

We may be small in numbers but the Lions motto of “We Serve” runs thru in everything we do. We welcome all to our clubhouse. Thinking of joining or want to know more? Just ask!
