Boothbay Region Lions Club

Mon, 10/16/2017 - 10:30am

Boothbay Region Lions met Oct. 11 with 21 in attendance along with two guests. We welcomed Lion Terry Hobbs Heller from Austin, Texas who showed her expertise at piano playing.

Our guest speaker for the night was Elaine Jones, director of education with DMR. Elaine explained what’s happening with Burnt Island. Our Lions were very interested in this educational presentation as one of our own, Lion Ken F-Fitch, volunteers there during the summer months. It was easy to see that Elaine is very passionate about her work. We are fortunate to have her overlooking Burnt Island and its restoration work.

The club gladly voted to support this project by sending along some funds.

Tail Twister Lion Tom issued fines in his typical “all in fun” style to: Lion Steve — his head was shining brightly under the kitchen light; Lion Connie gave her word she will tell us what Santa leaves in her stocking this year; Lion Jay — have you ever seen an “old” baby? Lion Terry — she didn’t know Willie Nelson’s sisters name (who was also from Austin, Texas); Lion Glenn — not present but a $3 fine; ran out of gas, trying to bribe a judge and failure to appear!

Many thanks to Dan Stevens for donating a used refrigerator to our club! We are in hopes of getting the clubhouse squared around soon and begin renting it out again. Stay tunes. We are a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization committed to helping those in need.

Want to be a Lion? Just ask! Come join us! On Oct. 25, we will be hosting the Zone meeting. Dinner starts at 6:15 p.m.
