Boston Camerata returns to Head Tide

Posted:  Thursday, July 20, 2017 - 8:45am

The Boston Camerata, America's preeminent early music ensemble, will perform a benefit concert entitled “Liberty and Love: A Summer Sampleron,” on Saturday, July 29 at 2 p.m. at the Head Tide Church.

There will be a tented gala lawn party immediately following the concert hosted by Brett and Priscilla Donham of Head Tide. Tickets are $50 and may be purchased at Proceeds benefit the Boston Camerata’s local and touring productions.

“This will be the Camerata's third appearance at the Old Head Tide Church and folks in the area are very excited the Camerata is returning,” says event host Priscilla Donham. “We expect this to be a sold-out concert as were the previous two. A gala lawn party on the banks of the Sheepscot River makes for a festive day!”

"What a joy to return to Head Tide!" comments Camerata Artistic Director Anne Azéma. There is a unique feeling in the air when we perform in that historic church, and we hope to share those lovely sensations with Maine friends, old and new."

The Boston Camerara will offer a summer buffet of music plus a sneak preview of the 2017-18 season throughout the concert! An opening set of love songs, chants, and spirituals from medieval France is followed by a feast of home-cooked ballads, Revolutionary part-songs, and paeans to American heroes, including pieces from the earliest Maine songbooks. Anne Azéma, director, voice; Michael Barrett, Daniel Hershey, Camila Parias, Deborah Rentz-Moore, Donald Wilkinson, voices; Joel Cohen, voice, guitar.

The Head Tide Church is located on Head Tide Church Road in Alna.
