BRES cross country teams finish first and third

The Boothbay Region Elementary School boys and girls cross country teams finished first and third, respectively, at a meet at Great Salt Bay in Damariscotta Sept. 20. Six schools competed in the meet.

“It was a picture perfect day on the beautiful but difficult ‘Killer Hill’ course,” said BRES Coach Hildy Johnson in a report to the newspaper.

The BRES boys, with 31 points, defeated Troy Howard (42) and Great Salt Bay (53) to round out the top three finishers. The BRES girls, with 62 points, finished behind Great Salt Bay (27) and Troy Howard (57).

The top 10 boy finishers were: Gryffin Kristan (BRES), 1st, 15:2.62; Nick Archer (GSB), 2nd, 15:25.89; Chase Carty (BRES), 3rd, 15:51; Nicholas Ritchie (Troy Howard), 4th, 16:02; Sawyer Linehan (Wiscasset), 5th, 16:25; Elias Howard (Troy Howard), 6th, 16:31; Zach Armstrong (Troy Howard), 7th, 16:53; Ryan Amaral (BRES), 8th, 17:05; Michael Ham (Troy Howard), 9th, 17:07; and Lucas Hardwick (BRES), 10th,  17:11.

The top 10 girl finishers were: Alicia Flis (GSB), 1st, 17:36; Jazmine Balducci (BRES), 2nd, 17:55; Audrey Hufnagle (GSB), 3rd, 18:33; Aspen Brewer (Troy Howard), 4th, 18:47; Juniper Fowler (Troy Howard), 5th, 18:48; Tess McNamara (GSB), 6th, 18:52; Bella Zech (GSB), 7th, 18:57; Grace Ann Campbell (BRES), 8th, 19:00; MaKenzie Neumann (Wiscasset), 9th, 19:17; and Rebecca Tomasello (GSB), 10th, 20:21.

BRES will compete at Medomak Sept. 28, with the girls starting first at 4 p.m., followed by the boys at 4:45 p.m.
