BRHS golf program begins Aug. 31

Fri, 08/18/2017 - 10:30am

Todd Lytle, PGA, will be returning as the student golf coach this year and the teams will play on the course at the Boothbay Harbor Country Club.

Boothbay Region High School students interested in playing golf  should have their physical and appropriate paperwork in before the first day of practice, Thursday, Aug. 31. Contact Athletic Director Allan Crocker at the High School at allancrocker@csd3-brhs.org. There are 5 spots available on both the varsity boys and varsity girls teams; and 10 spots available (per team) on Junior Varsity and Developmental Teams

All high school students who have interest in golf, regardless of experience are eligible.  The program will remain a club sport this year with a Varsity Team, JV Team, and  for a Developmental Team. Middle school students are also eligible for the developmental team.

In an effort to be an official Varsity sport in the fall of 2018, there will be two matches against other teams, one home and one away. There will also be weekly inter-team matches to season our players into competitive golfers.

The official golf season for 2017 will begin Aug. 31 and end on Thursday, Oct. 12. Practice will be every Tuesday and Thursday at Boothbay Harbor Country Club a half hour after school gets out. Practice will last until 5 p.m.  There will also be an optional Saturday practice from 2:30-4 p.m.  A school bus may drop students off near the Country Club entrance, but you must provide your own transportation to and from the Club.

It is preferred to have your own set of clubs but it is not required to participate.

There is a standard golf appropriate dress code while on Boothbay Harbor Country Club property. A golf shirt with a collar, non-denim shorts or pants are examples of proper golf attire. A team rule of always having your shirt tucked in will be enforced while at the Country Club.

“It is a great privilege to have the opportunity to play and practice at Boothbay Harbor Country Club,” said Lytle. “We thank the ownership and membership for this opportunity.”
