BRHS graduates receive awards

Fri, 06/09/2017 - 11:00am

Members of the Boothbay Region High School Class of 2017 created a brilliant blue and gold line as they entered the school auditorium for the presentation of class awards Thursday evening.

The 46 students slowly moved through a sea of raised cell phones and video recorders as parents and friends gathered to record and applaud their achievements.

Principal Daniel J. Welch and guidance counselor Brook Newberg conducted the program. Welch began by announcing the graduating honor students. Among these were two West Scholarship recipients. Welch said that this year, the award would be shared by Angelique Perkins and Kathryne Friant who had identical grade point averages. The two graduates will share the honor of class valedictorian.

According to Hannah Marden Johnson, guidance secretary, the total amount given in scholarships was $65,250. In addition, “The BRSAF (Student Aid Fund) also awarded nearly $400,000 in scholarship money to 19 graduating seniors and older alumni of BRHS ... and we'd like to thank them profusely for their support,” Johnson said.

In addition, books were given by teachers to some graduating and returning students in all grades to recognize the students’ hard work and dedication.
