BRHS swimmers compete at state meets

The Boothbay Region Seahawks competed in the Class B State Swim Meet held at Bowdoin College on Feb. 19 and 20. The small team was well represented by Evy Case and Emma Pearce in individual events for the girls and Rowan Kristin, Graham Harris and Jameson LaBrecque for the boys. Both teams represented their schools with pride.

For the girls, held Feb. 19, senior captain Evy Case placed 10th in the 200 individual medley. She dropped over three seconds over her best previous time. She also competed in the 100 backstroke where she again dropped three seconds off her best time. Senior Emma Pearce, while not placing at the meet, dropped a second in her 200 freestyle event and over four seconds in the 500 freestyle. Both girls competed in the 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay with junior Ashley Ames and newcomer freshman Maren Whitney. The relays placed 16th and 15th, respectively.

For the boys, freshman Graham Harris placed 10th in the 200 freestyle, dropping two seconds off his previous best time. He also competed individually in the 100 free. Sophomore Rowan Kristan, swam the 50 free and 100 free. He shaved off time in both events. Freshman Jameson LaBrecque dropped over two seconds in the breaststroke in his first state swim meet. Freshman Fox Elder joined them for the 200 medley relay and 200 free relay, placing 16th and 15th, respectively.

The Class A and B State Meets were dedicated to coach Don Strout. The Maine Principals Association and Swim Committee recognized Strout for over 25 years of coaching and support of student athlete and swimming.
