An accident on Route 27 in Boothbay backed up traffic for more than 40 minutes at approximately 6:52 a.m. on April 18.

Crews from Boothbay, Boothbay Harbor and the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office responded to a single car accident on Route 27 near Jason Circle and Hardwick Road after a red Ford pickup truck left the road and hit a tree.

The driver, identified as Andrew Longe, 22, of Bristol, had to be extracted by fire crews and was taken by LifeFlight helicopter to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.

The truck was headed south on Route 27 when it left the road and struck several mailboxes before crashing into the trees.

“What we have so far is he was driving south on Route 27 and he crossed over into the north-bound lane and struck a tree,” Lt. Rand Maker of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said.

Longe is reported to have suffered injuries to his face. The cause behind the accident is not yet known.
