Read a family-friendly book, “Winter Sleep: A Hibernation Story” written by Sean Taylor and Alex Morss and illustrated by Cinyee Chiu while walking through the woods. Follow the illustrated signs along the one-mile trail at Oak Point Farm’s kiosk, 60 Samoset Road in Boothbay Harbor. A story about a child and his grandma walking through a winter landscape exploring how the Earth goes to sleep for winter. Spot the sleeping animals as the tale unfolds, then learn about their hibernation habits; see what the child cannot—that underground below his feet are dens with sleeping creatures, and within the hollow trunks of trees, animals are nesting. After the story, annotated illustrations explain the hibernation facts for each animal and what they will do when they wake up for spring. The trail is open during daylight hours. FMI: www.bbrlt.org
