Call for artists for ‘Abstract’ exhibition

River Arts in Damariscotta is inviting artists to submit work for its upcoming “Abstract” exhibition. Submissions may be in any media or sculpture, and fine crafts are welcome.

An opening reception is scheduled for Friday, May 29, from 5-7 p.m. The exhibition will hang until June 25.

Artists can enter up to three works for jurying. Entry fees are $15 for members and $20 for non-members. Wall-hung work size maximum: 60 inches in height, 42 inches in width. For safety reasons, plexiglass or other non-glass option should be used for work over 34 inches, excluding pastels. All work entered must be for sale.

Work can be submitted during gallery hours anytime up to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 23. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Maine native Dozier Bell is the Juror for the “Abstract” exhibition. Since her first solo show in 1987, she has appeared in 30 solo and two-person exhibits in New York City and nationwide.

Bell is the recipient of several awards, including a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship, a Fulbright Fellowship as artist-in-residence at the Bauhaus University in Weimar, Germany, two Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grants, and the Adolf and Esther Gottlieb Foundation Grant.

A selection of her drawings from the Bates Museum is included in the current show at the Portland Museum of Art, “Director’s Cut: Selections from the Maine Art Museum Trail,” through September 20.
