Call to Artists for River Arts' ‘Celebrating Color’

River Arts in Damariscotta invites artists to submit work for its upcoming “Celebrating Color” exhibition. Submissions can be in any media, sculpture and fine crafts are welcome. All work is due by 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 13. The opening reception is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 19 from 5-7 p.m.

Artists can enter up to three works for jurying. There is a $15 entry fee for members and a $20 entry fee for non-members. All work entered must be for sale. The maximum size for wall-hung work is: 60 inches in height, 42 inches in width. For safety reasons, plexiglass or other non-glass option should be used for work over 34 inches, excluding pastels. Newcastle-based artist John Lorence is juror for the exhibition. Lorence attended Case Western, the Parsons School of Design, Cambridge School of Design and the Cranbrook Academy of Art where he earned his BFA and MFA. He has been the recipient of fellowships at YADDO, the Helene Wurlitzer Foundation, and the McDowell colony.

Lorence has exhibited both his paintings and sculpture extensively in solo and group exhibitions in Europe, the Middle East and the U.S as part of the Art-in Embassy program. He has had gallery representation in New York, Chicago and Milwaukee. Recently, he exhibited at the Courthouse Gallery in Ellsworth.

Lorence’s professional interests include painting, sculpture, drawing, printmaking, art history, conservation and archeology as well as short films. He has taught at the Layton School of Art, Portland School of Art and the University of Wisconsin.
