Fri, 04/08/2016 - 8:45am

Artists are invited to submit work for jurying into the River Arts “Flowers” Exhibition. Artists are encouraged to submit up to three works in any medium and style around the theme of flowers. The work can be delivered anytime the gallery is open, but no later than April 16 at 4 p.m.

The “River Arts’ Flower Show” will run April 22 to May 19 with an opening reception April 22, 5-7 p.m.

All work entered must be for sale. Wall-hung work size maximum: 60 inches in height, 42 inches in width – and for safety reasons Plexiglass or other non-glass option should be used for work over 34 inches, excluding pastels.

Early submissions are accepted within usual gallery hours. Artists may submit up to three works for an entry fee of $15 for members, $20 for non-members. Artists will be notified by email or phone of the juror’s decision.

Submissions may not have been shown at River Arts previously. Entry forms are available online at www.riverartsme.org and at the gallery when submitting.

The jurors for the show will be Dennis and Marty Gleason, owners of the Gleason Fine Art Gallery in Boothbay Harbor, a fixture on the local and statewide art scene. The couple opened their first gallery in what they describe as a tiny space in a Boothbay Harbor side street in 1985. The gallery is located in a restored 19th-century farmhouse at 31 Townsend Avenue in the center of Boothbay Harbor. In addition to selling 19th through 20th century art, Gleason Fine Art offers collection consulting, art appraisals, and restoration services.

The Gleasons’ goal has always been to offer the finest work by established painters and sculptors inspired by the beauty of Maine, especially its coast. Over the years, the Gleasons have placed work in some of Maine’s most important collections, including pieces now in the permanent collections of the Portland Museum of Art, Farnsworth Museum, and the Monhegan Museum. The gallery celebrates the rich art history of coastal Maine, particularly the long-standing connection between Boothbay Harbor and Monhegan Island.
