Carol P. Hussa

Carol Painter Hussa, 93, of Queensbury, New York, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, died peacefully Sept. 20, 2016, after a long illness.

Carol was born September 4, 1923, in Haverford, Pennsylvania, daughter of Caroline Lee Painter and Herbert J. Painter.

She graduated from the Shipley School and took secretarial training. She met the love of her life, Edwin F. (Ted) Hussa Jr., on MacMahan Island, Maine, where their families had summer homes. They married on May 31, 1943, at the Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, Presbyterian Chapel just prior to Ted's entry into the US Army to serve in World War II.

Carol managed a busy household of three children and also worked part-time. She had a great sense of humor, and enjoyed knitting, reading, crosswords and tennis. She spent many hours volunteering, and causes dear to her heart were animals and nature. Known in the family for her letter-writing, she was always prompt with her gracious thank you notes!

During their 71 years of marriage, Carol and Ted lived in suburban Philadelphia and Chicago before retiring to the family home in Wiscasset, Maine In 2009, they moved to Queensbury to be near family.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Eleanor Painter Beardsley, and a brother, David Painter. Her loving and devoted husband, Teddy, died in October of 2014.

She is survived by her three children, Diana Hussa and husband Joel Lowenthal of Haverford, Pennsylvania, Edwin F. (Rick) Hussa III and wife Sarah of Queensbury, N.Y., and Gordon S. Hussa and wife Kathy of Hickory Hills, Illinois. She is also survived by six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be private, with interment at a later date in the family plot in Wiscasset, Maine.

The family would like to thank all of the caring staff of Thornton Oaks in Brunswick, Maine, and The Landing and Westmount (now Warren Center) in Queensbury, N.Y., for their kind attention to Carol.
