Celebrate Boothbay!

Wed, 08/20/2014 - 9:30am

The town of Boothbay's 250th celebration will take place Friday through Sunday, August 22-24 and the weather outlook is nice.

Chairman of the event, Dawn Gilbert, invites all to celebrate the town's anniversary by attending some or all of the events.

"We're even having a birthday cake made by Sweet Dreams Bakery (Marie Kelley) on Saturday," said Gilbert.

The only change this week is that Gov. Paul LePage will not be able to attend the parade on Saturday morning due to his schedule, said Gilbert. His wife, Ann, will be attending.

After the parade, kids are invited to the Common for face painting, entertainment by clowns Twinkles and Fumbles, and to enjoy three horses and horse and buggy rides.

"Molly Stark has secured a mini horse, a wild mustang and a quarter horse, which will be on display," said Gilbert.

Also on display on the Common will be the painting done for the anniversary by East Boothbay artist Carlton Plummer (see related article).

Fireworks chairman Tom Nickerson said over $10,000 has been raised for the show and will be dedicated to the late Reona Heino, thanks to a significant donation by a family member.

"It will be a good show and the first held in East Boothbay in about 50 years," said Nickerson.
