The Heywood Gallery, 921 Main St., Waldoboro is excited to host Ronald Wilson, award-winning landscape photographer, with the exhibition, “Chasing the Light, from Quoddy Head to Cape Neddick,” from September 9-11 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day, and during ArtWalk Waldoboro on Saturday, Sept. 10 from 4 -7 p.m.

“Light is the paint brush that shapes the landscape,” says Wilson. Looking at his work, viewers can immediately visualize the full meaning of his statement. Wilson’s expansive scenes of Maine say it all: sand ripples leading to a colorful sunset at Popham Beach, a rock-and-grass knoll gently shrouded in mist at Mt. Desert, a bright, breathtaking sky reflecting on the waters at Corea Harbor. Many of his photographs are large, further adding to their visual impact.

Wilson adds, “Using photography to capture the details that give shape and form to the land is how I strive to convey the sense of being there.”

A professional landscape photographer for nearly 40 years, Ronald Wilson photographs the New England coast in addition to Ireland, Greece, Iceland, Scotland, and the American southwest. A recipient of many awards, Wilson has already earned two Best of Show awards this year, one from the renowned Photography Center of Cape Cod.A graduate from the Massachusetts College of Art with a degree in painting and from Tufts University with a degree in education, Wilson is also a popular photography workshop instructor. He will be on hand during “Chasing the Light” to meet visitors and discuss his work and photography process.

The Heywood Gallery is located in the historic “Governors Mansion” in the heart of downtown Waldoboro Village and features the works of American realist Anne Heywood. Original paintings of modern and traditional landscapes, unique still lifes, and plein air studies, many of which were inspired by Waldoboro and its environs are on view along with custom pet portrait samples, limited edition prints, and notecards.
