In the Clover, a women's specialty boutique in Wiscasset, has new owners.

Kasey McNamara and her husband Jay took over the store and all its merchandise in February.

McNamara worked at the shop for previous owners Kelley and Scott Belanger for five years before leaving to work with a mutual funds company in 2015. When the opportunity to transfer ownership presented itself, Kasey and Jay thought it was a good time to open their own shop.

“The transition worked out great, because the store closes in mid-January,” McNamara said. “We were able to receive training from Kelley, who was so wonderful and helpful, and make sure that we had everything we needed to open and get things rolling while the store was closed, and then prepare to open.”

They opened the doors to their store on March 18.

McNamara said people had heard through the grapevine that she had returned to the store as the owner. “Some were really surprised.” She said she and her husband had kept pretty quiet about it, because nothing was really changing, except the ownership.

“It was so exciting to see some of the customers I had known when I worked here, and have them come to the door and say, 'Well, what are you doing back here?' Everyone was so nice – some brought me flowers.

“Everyone in the community has been so kind.”

The store’s interior and most of the inventory, including high end clothing, much of it made with natural fibers like bamboo, linens and cottons, the jewelry and accessories, skin care products and books, remain essentially unchanged. McNamara said there was no reason to make changes. “I'm sure that there will be some subtle changes based on people's tastes and requests, but for the most part it will remain the same.”

Jay gets the store ready and takes care of the books and helps out with orders. “He is an awesome behind-the-scenes person for me, doing some of the things so I don't have to worry about them,” McNamara said. And the three employees who had worked for the Belangers will remain at the shop. 'Thankfully nobody wanted to leave after the transition.”

Geared mainly toward women, the shop has a little something for everybody, McNamara said. “If you're not into clothes, we have beautiful soaps and beauty products, and great books.”

In the Clover first opened its doors around 10 years ago.

Be prepared for some cuteness when you enter. The McNamaras' Westie, Charlie, just might greet you at the door with a friendly wag.

The store at 85 Main St. will be open Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Sundays,  11 a.m. to 4 p.m. throughout the summer. Call 207-882-9435, or visit inthecloverbeauty.com.
