Coastal Studies for Girls will hold an information session Thursday, Dec. 3 at the Skidompha Library Porter Meeting Hall from 5 to 6 p.m. The event is open to students, families and educators who are interested in learning more about the semester school for 10th grade girls. Admissions representatives from the school and local alumnae will be discussing the marine science, leadership and humanities curriculum and will be available to answer questions.

Coastal Studies for Girls, a member of the national Semester School Network, provides rigorous academics with an experiential focus and is the only semester school dedicated to marine science and leadership education for girls.

Coastal Studies for Girls is located on a 600-acre oceanfront land preserve in Freeport, Maine. Each semester, fifteen girls from a variety of schools across the country come to Freeport and live for one semester of their sophomore year in a renovated antique farmhouse on the shores of Casco Bay where they study an interdisciplinary place-based curriculum of academic high school courses in addition to Leadership and Marine Ecosystems. CSG’s Marine Ecosystems class is an immersion in fieldwork culminating in a public presentation of individual research projects. Many previous CSG semester school students have received national awards for their groundbreaking Marine Science research papers completed while attending the semester school.

Coastal Studies for Girls is expanding their class size for the upcoming spring semester and has space available for the semester beginning Feb. 7, 2016. CSG is now accepting applications from 10th grade girls to attend spring semester 2016 and from 9th grade girls for the 2016-17 school year.
