Community Center busy with Kentucky Derby and drawing

The Community Center is kicking off springtime with a promotional drawing and readying for the Boothbay Harbor Rotary Club’s third annual Kentucky Derby event.

The Center’s “Just Sew” group has created a professionally quilted 4-1/2-foot by 3-1/2-foot quilt which will go to the winner of a May 15 drawing.

The free promotion is designed to encourage visitors. Each time someone comes to the Center, they can enter their name in the drawing. And each time they bring a first-time visitor to the Center, they can enter their name twice in the drawing. The promotion started April 1.

The Center is also busily getting ready for its biggest benefit of the year: The Kentucky Derby party held at the Boothbay Harbor Rotary Club. The Derby is on May 5 this year and the doors open at 5:30 p.m.

Donations of items and services for the popular gift baskets are filling the Center’s rooms and will be accepted at the Center until the last week before the event.

Tickets are available at the Center Monday through Friday between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. and cost $15.

There will be a silent auction, hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar. The race will be broadcast live at the clubhouse. Paul Johnson and Amber Jones will provide live music during the event. The Rotary clubhouse is located on the Montgomery Road extension in Boothbay Harbor.
