Contested race for selectman, school trustee

The race is on for a seat on the Boothbay Harbor Board of Selectmen and Community School District School (CSD) Board. According to Town Clerk Michelle Farnham, all six open seats on boards have nominees, and two of the seats are contested. The filing deadline was March 4.

Incumbent Kenneth Rayle is running against Frank “Linc” Sample III for a selectboard seat. Sewall Maddocks Jr. is running against Thomas Minerich for a seat on the CSD Board of Trustees. Neither Maddocks nor Minerich is on the board.

The other four seats up for election have current board members as the only candidates. Stephanie Hawke filed papers for a seat on the CSD School Board; James Stormont submitted papers for the Boothbay Harbor Sewer District Board of Trustees; Howard Friant submitted papers for a seat on the Boothbay-Boothbay Harbor Cemetery District Board of Trustees; and Nell Tharpe filed for an at large seat on the Boothbay Region Water District Board of Trustees.

Voting will be held at the Boothbay Harbor Fire Station May 3 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Town meeting is at 9 a.m. May 4 at the fire station, where the officers will be sworn in.
