Artisan Days: Celebrating Maine’s Craft Heritage, a season-long series of craft demonstrations at Boothbay Railway Village, begins on Wednesday, June 22 with a rug weaving demonstration by Rebecca Townsend, a coopering (barrel-making) demonstration on Friday, June 24 with Ed Lutjens, a blacksmithing demonstration with Sam Smith on Saturday, June 25, and a metal “raising” demonstration on Sunday, June 26 with Danielle Gerber. All demonstrations run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and the crafters’ work will be for sale.

Boothbay Railway Village exhibits span the changes in Maine culture and technologies from the horse and buggy to the Ford Thunderbird (1840 to 1960) and include a blacksmith’s forge and a coopering workshop. Artisan Days: Celebrating Maine’s Craft Heritage brings a variety of artisans to demonstrate and bring to life the craft and handiwork of rural life of 150 years ago in Maine. Visitors have the opportunity to observe artists as they work, to touch instruments, tools, and objects, and to ask questions.

For a complete list of all craft demonstrations call Boothbay Railway Village at 207-633-4727 or visit the Museum’s website www.railwayvillage.org. Boothbay Railway Village is located at 586 Wiscasset Road, Route 27 in Boothbay, Maine. The demonstrations are free with Museum admission.
