The next guest in Lincoln Theater’s Talking Art in Maine: Intimate Conversations Series will be acclaimed artist, Lois Dodd. Talking Art in Maine is a series of personal, one on one discussions between artist Jane Dahmen and notable artists and curators who have made a substantial contribution to the arts in the state of Maine. They are offered free to the public. The conversation with Dodd will take place on Friday, July 18 at 2 p.m. at the theater.

Dodd was born in Montclair, N.J. in 1927. From 1945-1948 she attended The Cooper Union in New York. In 1952 she was one of five artists to establish the Tanager Gallery, where she exhibited until 1962. From 1971 to 1992, Dodd taught at Brooklyn College and has, since 1980, served on the board of governors of the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. She is an elected member of the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters and National Academy of Design.

Dodd has been painting compositionally idiosyncratic views of architecture, nature and the landscape of New York and her home in Cushing for the past 60 years. Her work is honest and charming, deceptively simple and non-sentimental, and offers a fresh take on subjects that often seem exhausted. Dodd's work can be found in the collection of many museums across the country, including the Colby and Bowdoin museums in Maine. Her paintings are shown regularly at the Alexandre Gallery of New York City and the Caldbeck Gallery of Rockland Maine.
