Dexter ends Boothbay’s season

Mon, 10/23/2017 - 11:30am

The Dexter Tigers brought the Boothbay Region Seahawks’ best field hockey season ever to an abrupt end, defeating Boothbay, 4-2, in the semifinal round of the Class C North tournament in Dexter on Friday, Oct. 20.

Both teams entered the contest with 13-2 records, but the Tigers had a little bit more offense and moved on to play top-seeded Winthrop for the regional crown on Tuesday, Oct. 24.

For Dexter, Hayley Rossman scored three goals, including the go-ahead goal in the second half, after Boothbay’s goals scored by Chloe Arsenault and Sydney Meader. Meader assisted on Arsenault’s goal and Kayla Lewis assisted on Meader’s goal. Dexter also received a goal from Tory Asbury.

“We had opportunities to score but we were unable to finish in the circle,” said BRHS Coach Donna Jordan in an email. “The kids had a great year.”

Boothbay had 15 shots on goal while Dexter had 14.

The Seahawks lost to Maine Central Institute last year in the semifinal round of the tournament after another fine season of winning nine games.

Friday’s game was the last field hockey game for BRHS seniors Meader, Lewis, Sydney Mercier, Page Brown, Emily Amaral, Kylie Michael, Elizabeth Ham, Jo Anna Shaw and Lilly Sherburne.
