Dogs from away – and their people

On Aug. 23, a perfect day in Boothbay Harbor, weatherwise at least, you could spot quite a few dogs wandering about town with their best friends at the other end of their leashes.

There were dogs visiting from New Hampshire, New Jersey, Connecticut, Iowa, Massachusetts, Virginia, Key West, Washington D.C. and even Chile!

Boothbay Harbor is a pretty dog-friendly town, with several restaurants allowing them to accompany their people on decks. Dogs don’t go thirsty while shopping in the harbor, either. Quite a few businesses set clean, pretty bowls of water on their stoops for our canine friends to quench their thirst.

And if your dog is especially cute, as most are in one way or another, you’ll find it takes extra time to make your way down Townsend Avenue with so many dog lovers stopping you to ask about your adorable pup, and give her/him a pat on the head.

More and more inns and hotels are allowing our furry companions to stay with their moms and dads, too, but be sure to ask before you plan to spend a night.

A few of the dogs were from right here in Boothbay Harbor, but they were just as happy to be walking around Boothbay Harbor as the pupsters from away. They were, after all, with their best friends.
