Down East Yacht Club holds annual meeting

Sun, 09/04/2016 - 8:15am

The Down East Yacht Club held its annual meeting Aug. 27 at the Tugboat Inn. The meeting was well attended to overview the past year and see the change of officers for the coming year.

Commodore George Hamilton gave a summary of the 50th Anniversary, which was both a year to remember and a trip down memory lane for many. Some of our old events were given new life and some new events were given a place in the history book. The 50th Anniversary will be remembered as one more great year of the DEYC’s “fun” on the water during the summer of 2016.

Next we listened to the V/C Tim Parker, R/C Sue Pope and F/C Steve Arkley give their summaries of this year's events. New members were elected to the board of directors, Alice Thompson, Barbara Gray and Dennis Hopkins; they replace the three members whose terms are up in 2016.

As we start into our 51st year, the following people will be at the helm guiding us along. Commodore Tim Parker and his wife Pam, V/C Sue Pope and her husband Brent, and R/C Steve Arkley and his wife Debbie. We will all look forward to another great year for sure.

Gifts were exchanged between the new and outgoing bridge and a big thank you went out to all those who helped to make the year a success. A special thanks goes out to Jane Mulholland, our administrative assistant, for a wonderful job of keeping the club informed of all upcoming events throughout the year.

We will be celebrating the Haulout Party on Sept. 10 at Blake's Boatyard, always a great ending to the boating season.
