Exploring the coast of Maine at The Lincoln Home

Sat, 09/24/2016 - 7:00am

Sit back and enjoy the beauty of Maine through a dynamic slide presentation by veteran photographer Dave Higgins as he shares his stunning images of the Midcoast region. Higgins combines both photography and painting in the computer. His images start with a photograph then he uses digital brushes and various software, filters and/or screens to develop a scene. The resultant works are neither photographs nor paintings but an amalgamation of the two into something new. We welcome the public to join us, Monday, Sept. 26, from 3 to 4 p.m. in our living room.

Higgins has been a photographer and educator for more than 40 years. Born in Portland, Dave is a lifelong resident of the state of Maine and has lived all over the southern and central parts of the state. Before returning to the coast fifteen years ago, Higgins was a graphic arts teacher residing in western Maine for 25 years. Upon retiring to the Midcoast, Dave taught photography and design at local art societies, public schools and at the Colby College Winterum program. In 2005 he was an artist in residence at Carina House on Monhegan Island. Higgins' work is exhibited and published throughout Maine and New England. Locally, he has exhibited at Round Top Center for the Arts, the Chocolate Church, the Damariscotta River Grill and Saltwater Artists Gallery.

The Lincoln Home is located at 22 River Road, overlooking the Damariscotta River, in Newcastle. For more information, call 207-563-3350.
