Fifty hospice volunteers honored at appreciation event

    CHANS Home Health & Hospice honored more than 50 volunteers at a celebration on April 5 at the Brunswick Hotel & Tavern. The event highlighted the outstanding work of the Hospice Volunteers and recognized several individuals for their extraordinary efforts.

    “We are so grateful for the dedication and commitment of the CHANS hospice volunteers,” said Carl Demars, MD, CHANS Home Health & Hospice Medical Director. “Their efforts enhance the healthcare services that we provide, offering personalized support and compassion as families navigate the end-of-life process. They truly are an essential part of the CHANS Hospice Care team, helping us to provide an all inclusive and seamless approach that offers peace of mind, comfort, and healing to patients and families.”

    CHANS Home Health & Hospice provides care and comfort during the final six months of an individual’s life. Personalized care plans allow the individual to remain at home while receiving professional, medically based support and comfort care inline with the his or her needs and wishes.

    Over the past year, Hospice Volunteers provided more than 3,500 hours of direct care and grief support to persons in our community. They have given guidance, support, companionship, and respite care to hundreds of individuals, families, and caregivers. At the celebration, many volunteers were recognized for their years of service and others were given awards for their support of the Hospice Volunteer Program.

    Special recognition was given to Lola Charron for the Rookie of the Year Award and serving 100 hours in 2016. Eleven other volunteers received recognition pins for 100 hours of service. Members of the Hospice Choir received the Whimsy Award. Lastly, Beth Newman received the Alyce Redman Volunteer of the Year Award.

    CHANS Home Health Care also recognized the following businesses and individuals who generously donated time, talents, and gifts to the celebration: Bowdoin International Music Festival, Brunswick Hotel, & Tavern, Brunswick Massage & Wellness, El Camino Restaurant, Flowers, Etc., Gelato Fiasco, Guven Gallery Anotolian Art, Midcoast Symphony Orchestra, Mustard Seed Bookstore, Now You’re Cooking!, Reny’s, Savory Fiore Artisan Oils, Wilbur’s of Maine, Cathy Alexander, Robert Beaumont, Ann Marie Bilodeau, Gail Eaton, Linda Swanson, and Michelle Simone.
