A very smoky fire started in the metal recycling pile at the Waste Management Facility, the dump, on Country Club Road in Boothbay this afternoon around 4 p.m.

Boothbay and Boothbay Harbor firefighters responded quickly and were continuing to fight the fire when this report was posted.

No one was hurt at the scene but Boothbay Region Ambulance Service attendants were on scene.

Anna Giles, an employee at the facility, called the fire in after fellow employee William Johnson had no luck fighting the fire with an extinguisher.

“It (the fire and smoke) spread pretty quickly,” said Giles.
