On view at The First National Bank in Boothbay Harbor is a show of paintings by local artist Margaret Canepa, part-time resident on Southport Island. Margaret is active with the Boothbay Region Art Foundation. and the Pleine Aire Painters of Maine.

Raised in Connecticut and New Jersey, she studied at the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan and Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York. Until 1996, she lived and raised a family in New York City, and then moved to Southport, Maine, and Genoa, Italy.

Margaret returns to Maine from Italy every May and is always delighted to get outdoors with her easel and brushes to capture the local landscapes and New England architecture on our special peninsula. One can see in her paintings fondness for favorite haunts around the town and on Southport. Margaret says that her association with the Boothbay Region Art Foundation and The Pleine Aire Painters has been a great opportunity to connect with the local artist community.

"It's been a very rewarding experience to live here and meet so many wonderful people. It has definitely been an enrichment to my life."

Winters in Italy give her a chance to enjoy another culture and lovely vistas along the Mediterranean, but both she and her husband Giovanni love to come back here each year and soak up the pleasures of Maine.
