Boothbay Region Community Resource Council

Free workshop on the myths and truths of reverse mortgages March 1

Sat, 02/17/2018 - 7:00am

On Thursday, March 1, from 1-3pm, the Boothbay Region Community Resources Council (BRCRC) Community Navigator, in partnership with Coastal Enterprises, Inc. (CEI), will offer Reverse Mortgage: Your Home’s Equity, a free workshop to dispel prevailing myths and present the facts about reverse mortgages.

Have you ever thought about a reverse mortgage, or wondered if it would be suitable for you? Or have your parents considered or taken out a reverse mortgage? Who is best served by a reverse mortgage? What are the credit requirements? What are the rights and responsibilities of homeowners and their heirs? Can someone be evicted if they live longer than expected? Are there tax consequences?

Come to this presentation, followed by a Q&A discussion, to learn the answers to these and other questions. Come to share your experience or get further information about the application process, how to choose a lender carefully, and the role of counseling to inform and protect consumers who are considering this option.

The Boothbay Region Community Resource Council (BRCRC) serves as a single point of contact for residents living in the towns of Boothbay, Boothbay Harbor, Edgecomb and Southport. The Community Navigator provides coaching, referrals and information to help community members navigate available resources to reach personal, work and health related goals. BRCRC’s 6 additional programs - Food for Thought, Set for Success, Boothbay Region Community Fuel Fund, Addiction Outreach, Free Clothing Closet and the Woodchucks wood bank – provide access to food, fuel and firewood, clothing, school supplies and recovery services.

Coastal Enterprises, Inc. (CEI) helps to grow good jobs, environmentally sustainable enterprises, and shared prosperity in Maine and in rural regions across the country. CEI considers the pursuit of affordable and sustained homeownership to be an important component of individual and family stability, as well as the foundation for thriving and vibrant communities throughout the state.
