On June 7, Boothbay traveled to Freeport for the second time this year, and the result was nearly identical to the first time. The Falcons won both meetings.

No.4 Freeport eliminated No. 5 Boothbay, 18-7, in Class C schoolgirl tournament action. Boothbay entered the quarterfinal match-up with a superior record to the host Falcons. Boothbay registered nine wins to Freeport’s eight. But one Falcon victory was over Boothbay, 15-3, on April 28. The early season matchup aided Freeport in finishing 17 Heal points higher than Boothbay in the standings.

And 41 days later, not much had changed. Freeport’s Taylor Rinaldi scored six goals and assisted on three others in propelling the Falcons to another victory. Boothbay struggled throughout the contest to mount a consistent attack. Freeport’s defense kept Boothbay scoreless until the first half’s last two minutes. Midfielder Jackie McLoon scored with one minute and 35 seconds remaining and Hannah Cola countered 40 seconds later with another.

In the second half, Freeport continued to dominate play. “It was hard to match the Freeport team’s speed and depth,” said Boothbay coach Donna Jordan.

Boothbay midfielder Sydney Meader was the team’s high scorer with five goals. Boothbay ends its season with a 9-4 record. Freeport (9-4) advances to the State Class C semifinals on June 12. The Falcons await the winner between No. 1 Lake Region and No. 8 North Yarmouth Academy.
