A fun only-in-Boothbay opportunity

Tue, 08/08/2017 - 11:30am

    Dear Editor:

This past Sunday I rowed to Burnt Island around 8 a.m., dropped a donation into a box on the boardwalk by the beach, and enjoyed a full tour of both the lighthouse and the first floor of the keeper's house, which is restored according to 1950s keeper's family's daily living. Oh, yes, this was followed by (could have been preceded by) a generous and tasty pancake breakfast.

There are three Sundays left for kayakers, canoeists, and rowers to take advantage of this opportunity. My letter is not only to encourage all paddlers in the region to check this out.I also encourage keepers of inns, motels, B&Bs, cabins and cottages to have your kayaking guests put this on their list of only-in-Boothbay activities.Paddling to Burnt for a Sunday morning pancake breakfast and tour is a fabulous, low cost, low impact experience to be treasured. And your guests won't know about it unless you tell them!

We are lucky to have Burnt Island with its paths, lighthouse and keeper's house available for all to enjoy. This early morning adventure (7-9 am, Aug. 13, 20, 27) is fun and informative, as well as supportive of the Keepers of Burnt Island Light non-profit which makes the island available to us.
    Check it out!
